Dear Parents and Carers,

This week has been another busy week for all of us here at Leigh Academy Bearsted. On Monday, we were joined by several governors of our Academies Board who enjoyed their tour of the school and talking to many pupils about their learning.  They were so impressed by the way the pupils’ conducted themselves and they could articulate their learning and experiences.  On Tuesday, we held a successful Reception open morning for prospective parents next academic year whilst also continuing to develop the excellent enquiry-based learning enjoyed by pupils of all ages.

It has been a pleasure to see so much learning continuing to blossom in so many classrooms this week.  We have enjoyed sharing pupils’ excitement at their discovery of new facts and understanding of the world around them, including, but not limited to, Maasai Warriors, Human Identity, World War II and Inspirational People.

Celebration Assembly

Our Celebration Assembly this week saw 10 more pupils selected for demonstrating various Learner Profile attributes.  Here at Leigh Academy Bearsted, we enjoy celebrating pupils’ demonstration of any of the ten attributes and enjoy hearing from their class teachers, who always present the award, about how they did so.

Parking reminder for all parents

A polite reminder to all parents:

  • Vehicles parked in the drop off bays must be facing in the direction of Snowfields Academy.

This maintains the flow of traffic – because vehicles do not need to cut across both lanes or do u-turns which significantly increases waiting time and puts children at risk!

  • Vehicles must not be parked at the end of rows.
  • The drop off bays (in front of the academy hall) are to be used only for parents dropping off children between 8:20 and 8:30am.

Key dates

Please continue to check our Academy key dates as it is updated regularly.  Please note that this list may be subject to change, as dates may be added or amended if required.

Board games appeal

We are appealing to parents and carers for any donations of unused or unwanted board games, including card games such as Dobble or Uno, and puzzles for all pupils to enjoy on days where wet weather prevents them playing outside.  We kindly ask that only games and puzzles that are complete are donated to school ready for Module 2 on 5th November 2024.

Celebrations

Invicta Care Home Harvest Help Out

This morning, 12 Key Stage 2 pupils and staff enjoyed a wholesome morning with the residents of Invicta Care Home by preparing and making a range of chutneys, jams and sauces.  Students helped residents harvest, wash, peel and chop homegrown fruits and vegetables before preparing and decorating the glass jars with labels and coverings.  It was amazing to see the kindness, consideration and inclusiveness shown by all of our pupils!

We look forward to receiving the fruits of our labour from the care home next week once the final touches are prepared.

A huge thank you to Mrs Ranger who also supported the children.

PSQM

In case you missed it…..

As you may remember, the development of Science has been at the forefront of our curriculum for the last 2 years. Starting with our science vision and key principles, and implementing them into our Science teaching, we have been on an exciting journey to promote a love of all things Science!  With a focus of developing scientific enquiry skills, we have been amazed with how the children have really started to think like scientists and show agency over their learning, generating their own questions to investigate and carrying out their experiments that they have planned themselves. The children’s work was showcased in our submission to the PSQM panel and we are highly delighted to announce that we have received the Primary Science Quality Mark in recognition of the outstanding progress that we have made in Science as an academy. We are already looking forward to Science Week next year and seeing where it takes us.
